For some time a series of thefts has 'been .going on at farm houses in the Stanway district, though apparently the settlers did not think it worth their while to. report them to the police. This week, however, the police got wind, and after making inquiries arrested two men named James McDonald and Joseph Lack. In thenpossession . were found a harness saddle, and a riding bridle, a quantity of wire netting, an incubator, a blacksmith s vyce, and tins of paint, which liarl been stolen from different places. The accused wore brought before Mr. A. A. Thompson, S.M., to-day, pleaded guilty to charges of stealing the articles, and were each sentenced to three months’ hard labor on each charge, the sentences to be concurrent.
