BOWLING.
GISBORNE CLUB. A large number of the members of the Gisborne Bowling Club preferred the attractions of the bowling green to those of the racecourse yesterday, and had a very enjoyable afternoon’s play. The green was in good order, playing true and keen, and the weather was -admirable for howling, as indeed, it was for almost any other kind of outdoor recreation. The following were the results of the principal games: Johnston, Redstone, Bennessy, Hookey (skip) 22, beat Robertson, Paltridge, Eure, W. Pettie (skip) 15. Hoff, Townson, R. G. Crawford, Ponsford (skip) 28, beat Brown ? Wilson, Pavitt, T. A. Crawford (skip) 13. Morgan, Harris, Bullock, Corson (skip) 22, beat. Kyme, Miller, Robertson, Witty (skin) 18. Seymour, T. Adair, W. R. Clarkson, Craig (skip) 21, beat Malcolm, Williams, Cunningham, Greig (skip). 9. During the afternoon the following twelve gentlemen were elected members of the Club:—Messrs G. F. Preddy, A. J. Benzie, Spencer, M. Foster, L. T. Brown, -C. G. Maher, W. Hoff, J. R. Kirk. J. Greig, H. J. Grieve, T. A. Ratcliffe, and G. Shierlaw. TURANGANUI CLUB. Notwithstanding the counter attraction of the races, there was a fair muster of bowlers at the Turang-anui Club’s green yesterday afternoon,; three rinks being occupied by .play. A number of praotice .games were played, and, a commencement was made with the second round of the Douglas Feathers, one game being played. The result was: W. Edwards and J. D. Jeune (skip) 22, beat H. C. Anderson and C. F. Lewis (skip) 20.—This provided tlio closest game so far in the competition. H. J. Finn acted as substitute
for W. Edwards. On the 13th head both pairs had scored that fatal number —13, and then a ding-dong “go” ensued. Slowly Anderson and Lewis forged ahead, and on the 17th head were 17 to 15. .However, the 18th head proved their undoing, for their opponents .got a “full hand,” Lewis failing to save. On the following head Jeune and his partner scored 2. Anderson and Lewis tried hard to retrieve the position on .the last head, and scored 3, 'thus suffering defeat by 2 points.
