TAIERI MILK SUPPLY CO.

ANNUAL MEETING. [ Peu Press Association.! . DUNEDIN, October 29. At the annual meeting of the Taieri and Peninsular Milk Supply Company, the directors reported that the profit for the year, including balance from last year, was £7316 9s 6d. They recommended payment of a dividend of 6 per cent., and of allowances on butter shipped to South Africa (returns not to liand) estimated at about £SOO. The balance to be carried forward. The milk purchased amounted to 99,097,728 lbs, containing 57,010,5681bs of butter fat. The quantity of butter manufactured was 1711 tons, and of cheese 382 tons. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the chairman, Mr. Mahoney, said that the results had not been so good as in previous years. The volume of business had been as large as in former years, if not larger, and if things had turned out as the directors had anticipated, a handsome return would have resulted. In former years there had been considerable shrinkage in the supplies for winter"trade and the directors decided to store butter to supply requirements, chiefly of the South African trade, but when the time came to use butter thus stored in the .cold chambers something unaccountable had developed in it. The butter failed to reach the requirements for export to South Africa, and what was sent forward did not “stand up” as previous lots had done. The directors had left no stone unturned to discover the cause of the trouble, which had been the first experienced by tho' company-.. A .new butter maker, liad been secured. The company had been'pasteurising all cream with the. object oh correcting theundesirable flavor. The outcome of the foregoing year, as;far as supplies were concerned, was excellent, and prices had been, satisfactory,, though not up to expectations. The report and balance-sheet were adopted, and the retiring directors (Messrs Wm. Nicholson and J. Mahoney) were' re-elected.
