DECREASE OF NATIVES. -United - Press Association— Copyright SYDNEY, Oct. 30. The Rev. Mr Danks, secretary to the Methodist Mission, in a letter to the press, dealing'’’with the decrease of natives in the Pacific Islands, says: “After years spent among the native I have come to the conclusion that agelong savagery has robbed the natives of'finer instincts and the strength of character which make for the continuation of a community’s life- Whatever the primary cause the. decline of the population is only too -patent.” Hesounds* a warning . against increasing, the -importation of Indian and Chinese coolies, -add urges-the necessity of Government action in establishing industrial colleges and settlements, and to train the natives to put their lands to profitable use, giving them aims and interests in life.;
