THE ARBITRATION AND CONCILIATION ACT. • ri’nu Press Association.! NEW PLYMOUTH, October 30. The Railway Engine Drivers and Firemen’s 'Association is making an attempt to alter a clause in the Arbitration'and Conciliation Act which refers to the Amalgamated' Society ot Railway Servants in order to permit recognition of tlieir body, and lias presented several petitions to Parliament with this end in view. _ At a meeting or the Amalgamated Society held at New Plymouth, the following motion, was carried: “That any alteration m the Act would be detrimental to our Society, and is contrary to the best interests of railway men.as a whole. The local branch of the Drivers ( and Firemen’s Association resolved: That this branch strongly supports the eitoits at present being put forward by its Grand Council, and trusts the clause; in the Act will be deleted, thereby giving •justice to the petitioners. It stood tlie matter comes before the 1 editions Committee of 'the House next week.
