WHATAUPOKO TENNIS CLUB—- - OPENING DAY. Fine weather greeted the formal 'opening day of the season at the AVhataupoko Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon, tli9ugh the breeze was strong; enough to affect play a little., Tiie turf was looking splendidly green and level, though a trifle on. the soft side after the heavy rains. Several enjoyable sets were witnessed during the afternoon, four courts being used,_ and croquet was played on the part of the lawn set apart for it. Socially the function was a very pleasant one, and a number of visitors were present. A well selected programme of music was rendered' by Vita Brothers’ orchestra, and those pi'esent partook of afternoon tea provided by the lady of the club. The club’s prospects for tho coming season are- very bright, and its popularity is indicated by tlicf fact that the membership list of 200 is already full. THE MARS-BUCKLEY CUP.
