THE GISBORNE CLUB. Tho green off the Gisborne Bowling Club was in very good order for playing on Saturday afternoon, when its capa- ; bilities were tested by a considerable , number of members o'?' tlm Club. In addition to several minor* contests, two full-rink games were played, as .follows : AV. Pettie, Maher, Ambridge, Ponsford (skip) 2! beat Seymour, Boulton, Mackintosh, F. Martin (skip) 20. Kirk, Redstone, Paltridge, Witty (skip) 18 .beat Brown, Wootton, Pavitt, Benzio (skip) 14. Entries for the Club’s, handicap fours and handicap singles closed on Saturday night. The number of. entries was highlv satisfactory. The names are to be' submitted the handicapper, Mr. W. . J. Hennessy, and the result of the first draw will be published, as soon as possible. j Satisfactory progress is now being made with the now pavilion. The windows are in position, and the interior fittings are well forward. The building is. now sufficiently far advanced to show that it will be highly commodious and convenient. An admirable view is afforded from the balcony, which should become a favorite resort of tjie lady friends of the members of the Club. TURANGANUI CLUB. It was doubtless owing to the many holidays of Carnival Week that the usual half-holiday on Saturday afternoon was not taken full advantage of bv the members of the Turanganui Club. Between fifteen and twenty players rolled up. and put in some good games, the green running keen and 1 true. Afternoon tea was provided by 1 tiie club, and was much appreciated. 1 Among tho games played was one in the second round of the Douglas Fea--1 tiiers, the result of which was—■ D. J. Barry and M. G. In the remaining three heads Ratcliffe scored 3 and Nasmith 1, Ratcliffe and Finn thus •ing defeated bv 17 points. NEW ZEALAND BOWLING ASSO- , CIATION’S TOURNAMENT. L The annual tournament of the New i Zealand Bowling. Association is to be ' held at Dunedin, commencing on Mon- ) day, 17th January 1910, and the following days. Rink games are to bo , plaved of 21 heads each, the first round to start at 9.30 a.m. on Monday, 17.t1i l January. The first prize is four tro- = phies of £3 each and certificates, seol end prize four trophies of £3 each and certificates, third prize four trophies , of £2 each, and fourth prize four tro- : phies of £1 each. AVinners of green ; are to receive framed certificates - lor i their club’s pavilion. Doubles are to • he played, of 16 heads each, the first round to start on AVednesday, 19th January, at 8.30 a.m. The four prizes are to bo'of similar value to those in the rink games. Singles matches are also played, the first round commencing on Thursday, January 20tli, at ; 8.30 a.m. The four prizes in this com-' petition will be of similar value,to those ! in the other matches. The entrance fee in each competition is os per player. Programmes covering the above have been received by the secretaries of the Gisborne and Turanganui Clubs from Mr. H. F. Mercer, secretary to the tournament.
