The following is the New Alpine mine manager’s report for the week ending 2nd November: —No. 4 level was extended a further distance north of 28tt, making a total distance from the crosscut 297 ft. Stone came in the face on the 28th ult. It .was very irregular, and assavs showed it to be of a very low order. It ranged from 6in to 2ft m ■width. It is nearly all cut out again, and seems to be boulders. In the ba-ck there is a good reef back, and favorablo for driving. Stoping was continued above No.-13 level. The stone is irregular and interspersed with soft mullock. The reef ranges from Ift 6m to 2ft 6in in width. A good deal of mul-

lock had to be run into these stopes, as they were not fitting during the stoping operations carried on here front the middle -winze,/and the stopes were heavy through being near No. 12 level. • The same are now in good working order. A start was made to raise for stoping above No. 14. In the stone cut at 205 ft north the reef is 2ft 3in, and is well defined. It is very difficult stoping here, as the drive is required for getting mullock away from the north face, but we will be over the worst of that in another dav or two. A line of 2in pipes is being put in from No» 12 to the face in No. 13, so as to give- us a supply of water for boring operations with the rock drill, and should prove a good job. We will then have water for boring operations at 451bs pressure, which should effectually keen clown dust and enable the machine to drill faster.. Pipes have also been put in the shaft for the new pumpi and the same will be connected and in working order during the coming week. An additional sixty tons were paddccked.
