NEW SOUTH WALES COLLIERIES.

CABLE NEWS.

A GENERAL STRIKE. WORK TO CEASE TO-DAY. United Press Association—Copyright. SYDNEY, Nov. 6. Serious trouble appears to be impending in the Newcastle colliery district. Rumors of a general strike are current. A lengthy secret meeting of the miners delegate board was held. Lodges throughout the district are being summoned within the next few days to discuss what has been done by the delegate board. (Received November 7, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 6*.

A mass meeting of miners, representing the Cardiff, Waratah, Durham, New Lambton, iShortland, and Burwood Extended collieries adopted the miners’ delegate board’s resolution recommending that no more work be done until redress of all grievances has been obtained.

(Received November 8, 1.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 7.

All the Northern miners’ lodges, with the exception of two which have yet to meet, have decided to strike. There is no prominent grievance on which the decision rests, but grievances are numerous.

COAL LUMPERS AND WHARF LABORERS LIKELY TO STRIKE

The executive of the Coal Lumpers’ Union met to-night, and decided to hold a meeting on Monday to enable a common understanding on the coal trouble to be come to. In order that all members shall have a- voice in the ultimate decision, it was decided that work shall cease between 8 and 2 o’clock to-morrow. It is a pretty solid belief that the miners will be supported.

The wharf laborers will also meet tomorrow to discuss the situation. The crisis has taken the business community by surprise. Although discontent has been simmering in the Newcastle district for some time, active measures were not anticipated.
