BOER WAR AFTERMATH.
GLAM FOR £280,000 DAMAGES.

The trial has commenced on a petition of right from the Imperial Cold Storage Company, claiming £280,00C) damages from the Crown for breach of contracts. It is claimed that the War Office representatives promised to supply the company witli all stock captured by Lord Kitchener during the Boer war at a penny below the price of the contract for supplying meat to the army, whereas the War Olw charged 3d above the contract price, and refused to allow for disease or poverty of animals. According to some witnesses, Lord Kitchener declared that the old contractors had defrauded the War Office of £1,000,-000, and he would not he satisfied till lie got some back from the suppliants. An important question involved is whether the agreements were made under Dutch or English law.
