RAILWAYS WANTED.
£12,000,000 NECESSARY IF ALL REQUESTS BE GRANTED.
rpun Press Association.! WELLINGTON, Nov. 6. Replying to a deputation regarding the Waiu'ku railway, the Hon. R. McKenzie said lie had recently submitted to Cabinet a list of no less than 46 lines of railways wanted in different parts of the country. These would run a length of 11,000 to 12,000 miles, and cost. £12,000,000. Amongst these -was the Waiuku railway. If those advocating these lines could . show the Government a way of raising £3,000,000 they would be in a position to render some assistance. He suggested to the Waiuku people the advisableness of establishing an oil motor service on their account. He did not see any prospect of .the line of railway being constructed for many years, and the Government at present was going to concentrate its efforts on pushing on the North Auckland and East Coast lines. The Minister added that as far as he knew the Government had no intention to bring doAvii a Railway Authorisation Bill this year.
