SENIOR COMPETITION.
SATURDAY CHAMPIONSHIP
The Saturday championship matches "were continued on Saturday afternoon at the Victoria Domain and at Taruheru. At the former ground United met Wanderers, and at the country venue Taruheru tried conclusions wi'fch Y.M.C.A. UNITED v.. WANDERERS. United won the toss and decided to bat. Notwithstanding a good start they were all dismissed, for the small total of 73 runs, McMahon obtaining the fine average of 7 wickets for 32 runs. Wanderers on going; to the wickets fared little better than their opponents, and at the call of time had lost 6 wickets .for 45 runs. The following are the detailed scores: UNITED.
Y.M.C.A. v. TARUHERU. The above teams met on the Taruheru ground. The Taruheru captain won the toss, and sent Y.M.C.A. to the wickets. Through the efforts «f Hunt (23), Pine (20, not out), Aewai (12), Dudfield (12), and Ivuring (10) a total of 94 was hoisted. Charles and Davies were the most successful of the six bowlers tried for Taruheru. On going to the wickets, Taruheru responded with 72 for nine wickets. J. Davies was responsible for exactly half of this total, and displayed good form in running up his total of 36 before being caught by Dudfield, off Barker. Monk was the only other man to make double firm res, and batted steadily until a good ball from Rewai sent him back. Barker howled exceptionally well for Y.M.C.A., and secured 6 wickets for 16 runs, off 78 balls, sending down no fewer, than six maidens. The following were the scores: Y.M.C.A. —\st Inuings.
JUNIOR COMPETITION.
UNITED v. WANDERERS
These teams met on the wicket on the western side of Victoria Domain on Saturday afternoon. United had first strike, but the whole side collapsed for the very poor total of 18 runs, against the bowling of Muldoon {4 for 10) and Smith (6 for 17). Rigby (10) was the only batsman to shape confidently, no less than six of the side registering “blobs.” Wanderers could 1 only reply with 26, Muldoon (8) being top-scorer. Rigby, Coles, and Catland bowled well for United. In their second innings United showed their consistency by again scoring exactly the same total as they had made m their first innings (18). Sissons (12) was the only man to register double fio-ures and this time seven' batsmen had tlie dreaded “duck’s egg ’ opposite their names. Smith secured the remarkable bowling-figures of 8 wickets for 9 runs, off 46 balls, while Muldoon bagged 2 wickets for 3 runs, off 18 balls. Requiring 11 runs to win, Wanclerers obtained the number ■■without the loss of a wicket, Tonks (17, not out) and Owen (6, not out) hitting off the runs. Wanderers thus'won by ten •wickets.
ALHAMBRA v. Y.M.C.A
The match between Alliambra and Y.M.C.A. was played on the Domain, Y.M.C.A. winning the toss and electin" to bat. They compiled a total of 70° runs in their first innings, £ones
(19), Muir (13), and Auld (13) being the double figure scorers. Sim (4' for 14) and Fitzgerald (2 for 10) were the most successful bowlers for Alhambra. Alhambra did not fare so /well in their first innings, only putting together 49, of which Fitzgerald (27) and Gorman (8) were the principal scorers, against the bowling of Jones (7 for 17)' Mill /I for 20), and Edwards (1 for 5). Y.M.C.A. made 45 for the loss of nine wickets in their second innings, Muir (13) being the only double figure scorer. Sim captured 6 wickets for 16 runs. Alhambra in their second innings got 16 runs for the loss of two wickets when time was called, leaving Y.M. C.A. winners on the first innings. TO-MORROW'S MATCHES. The selector (Mr. W. The second round of the Auckland Cricket Association’s matches was concluded yesterday. The weather was beautifully fine in the early afternoon, but rain fell before the games were finished, making the fourth successive Saturday afternoon on which rain had fallen. The senior grade matches resulted as follows: —Eden v. Grafton: Eden first innings 74, second innings 143 for 6 wickets (A. Horspool 28, Gordon 3S). R. Neill toolc 3 wickets lor 29 runs. Grafton first innings 243 for 6 wickets, innings closed (E. Horspool 90, D. Hay 71, S. P. Jones 28 not out). Grafton won by 169 runs on the first innings—a 2-point win. University v. Ponsonby: University first innings 263 (Jacobsen 100, Wallace 4.)). White took 5 wicketsjor 53 runs. Ponsonby first innings 174 (Cossey 4o not out, Woods 35). Fenwick took 5 wickets for 47 runs). University won on the first innings by 89 runs—a 2-point win. Parnell v. North Shore: larnell first innings 219, second inmnes SS for 5 wickets (Sale 28 not out Wright 2/). North Shore first innings 12/ (KalJenden 38, Prime 31, Howden 28 not out). Oliffe took 4 wickets for 27 runs, and performed the hat trick. _ Parnell won by 92 runs on the first innings- a 2point win.
DUNEDIN MATCHES POSTPONED.
