GISBORNE CLUB

There was an exceedingly good muster of the members of the Gisborne Bowling Club at their green on Saturday afternoon. Favored by the condition of .the, green, some very enjoyable play took place. Onei match in the first round of the- Handicap Singles was got off between Zacbariah and Trailh The former conceded three points to the latter, the respective handicap allowances being 12 and 9. Zachariali was the winner by 41 to 22. The results of the other principal games were as follows : Brown, Paltridge, Ambridge, Ponsford (skip) 25 beat Boulton, Wilson, W. Pettie, F. A. Martin (skip) 19. Maher, Pavitt, Mackintosh, Bright (skip) 29 beat Lewis, Wootton, Corson, Witty (skip) 9 4 . . The following further entries have been received for the challenge iours (Eure gold stars): — Zachariah, Harris, Ambridge, J. J Martin (skip). In the second round the winner of the match Corson v. Ambridge plays J. J. Martin (skip); Witty (skip) plays Craig (skip); Robertson (skip) plays Eure (skip), and Hennessy (skip) plays the winner of the,match, Pettie v. Simson. TURANGANUI CLUB. On Saturday there was a, good attendance of players on the Turanganui Club’s green, three rinks being engaged. The turf played true, but was on the heavy , side after the recent rains. Afternoon tea was supplied by the club and was much enjoyed. Among the games played during the afternoon was a challenge match for the “G.T. Feathers,” in which A. J. Benzie (holder) had to defend his trophy from M. G. Nasmith, junr. (challenger). The result was—

M. G. Nasmith,- junr (20) beat A. J. Benzie (9).-—The small total of 29 points scored bn 21 heads showed the closeness of the game. Benzie got first blood with a single, his opponent replying with a similar number, and the latter, keeping the jack, gradually drew away, and on the 10th head was 10 to 4. The second part of the game was a replica of the first part, Nasmith scoring ten to Benzie’s five. In the game 15 singles were put up, four 2’s, and two 3’s. A meeting of the Match Committee of the Turanganui Bowling Club was held on Saturday afternoon, when it was resolved to invite entries for Handicap Pairs, to close on Thursday wee'k, November 18th. The trophies are pairs of bowls presented by Messrs Parker and Sheridan and Mr. PA E. Ha Ham. It was also decided to take entries, to close on Thursday, November 18th, for Pennant Fours. The following conditions were drawn up for the competition: —1. All members in this competition shall be divided into two sections, A and B. No four members of A section shall bo allowed to challenge, but any four of B section may do so. It shall be permissible for any two members of A section and tu r o members of B section to form a challenge rink. 2. A challenging four shall give seven days’ notice to the holders, such notice to be posted on the notice board. 3. In the event of the challenging four being defeated, none of such four shall be allowed to again challenge until the holders have been challenged by some other four. 4. Upon any four challenging the holders, such four shall deposit the sum of 6d each with a* member of the Match Committee. 5. All games shall be of 21 heads. 6. The pennants are to be.held by the winners ill trust for the club. In the event of any pennant being lost, damaged, or destroyed, such pennant shall be replaced by the holder at the time being. 7. The competition shall at all times be subject to the control of the Match Committee.
