E.C.M.R. SPORTS.

TO-DAY’S GATHERING

The fourth grand military tounament and sports gathering under the auspices of the East Coast Mounted Rifles will be held at the Park racecourse to-day, commencing at 11.30 a.m. A special train will be run to the grounds, leaving Gisborne at 11.10 a.m., and returning at 5.20 p.m. Admission to the ground has been fixed atIs, with an additional charge of Is for the grandstand. Sixpence each will be charged for horses being brought into the ground. Given a continuance of yesterday’s splendid weather, nothing will be wanting to make the gathering an entire success, and it is anticipated that large numbers of people will avail themselves of the opportunity to /witness .sports of a .rather novel character. A most attractive physical drill competition, tent pitching and striking, Gretna Green race, Victoria Cross race, nightalarm, and open leaping match. The catering is in the hands of the Gisborne Co-operative Bakery Company, and luncheon will be available on the ground at a cost- of Is, with afternoon tea provided at the usual price. A total of 328 entries lias been received for thirteen events, which shows the interest the members of the squadron are taking in the tournament. The open leaping match, over such jumps as the committee may decide, should he an especially interesting event, as all the best horses which competed in this event at the show have entered, besides a number of firstclass jumpers, which are spoken of as likely to effect surprises.
