TO-DA Y’S ATTRACTIONS
T O -day, the King’s Birthday, is to be observed as a close general holiday in Gisborne, and numerous attractions are chief events is to annual sports gathering m connection with the E.C.M.R-, winch takes place on the Park Racecourse. A good proovimum of events has been prepared, and an interesting day’s amusement will be provided. The sports commence at 11.30 a-m., and the Gisborne Co-operative Bakery Company will have a refreshment booth on the ground, at which lunch wi 1 be provided at Is, afternoon tea and cordials at the usual price. There will be a good deal of cricket to-dav A town team mays a Motu visiting team at Taruheru, play commencing at 10 a.m. and on the Domain an all day match will be played between teams representing Married v Single. A junior all day match will a iso be played mi the Domain between a combined A hambra-Wamierer.s team and a Y.M-C.A.-United team On the Patutahi Domain the old settlers’ picnic takes place, when it is expected a large concourse of oid settlers will be present. As an extra attraction a number of races for the children have been arranged, and prizes have been donated in large numbers. Mr. C. I. Lewis is in charge of the sports, which commence at 11 a.m. Hot water, milk, and a paddock for horses free of charge will be provided by the committee. A refreshment booth will be on the ground. There will be a number of other picnics taking place to-day also. The St. Andrew’s Sunday School picnic will be held at Wainui, in Mrs. Cooper’s grounds, for which busses leave the Post Office at 8 a.m. and 9.15 a.m. Messrs Common, Shelton and Co.’s employees are having a picnic at Waihoku, and leave for their destination by special train. In addition to these a number of private picnics are to be held. The Boy Scouts parade at the Victoria Belfry at 9 o’clock this morning, where, after saluting the flag, they wi l he addressed by the Mayor and by Mr. C. W. Palmer, honorary secretary of the Wellington branch of the Navy League. The boys then proceed to Ivaiti, where the game “Flag Raiding,” in which three patrols from the Y.M.C.A., three from Gisborne No. 1, and one from St. Andrew's will be engaged. will take place. Bowling will be carried on all day on the greens of the Gisborne and Turanganui Bowling Clubs. This evening, at the Pathe Picture entertainment, a comic singing competition will be held. THE HOLIDAY AT DUNEDIN. (I’r.u Pitr.ss Association.l DUNEDIN, Nov. 8. The weather for the holiday to-day is overcast, and there are strong indications of rain. The principal attractions are the Mosgiel races. Harbor Beard’s picnic at the head works, and the interprovinoial tennis match, Otago v. Cantorburv.
