“ONE OF ENGLAND’S VETERANS”

Thomas, William Broadfield, 74 years of age, a -widower, one of England’s veterans, was found early this morning, lying in a state of collapse on the footpath close to his home. He expired befor© being removed. He served sis a boy in the 77th regiment, and at 18 joined the 70th regiment of foot. Ho fought at Alma, Sebastopol, in the- Indian Mutiny, and in the Maori war. He was of upright character as a soldier and a man, and his lonely death is a matter for regret. An inquest will be held, and a military funeral will be given. [Mr. Broadfield was well knoAvn m the Poverty Bay district, where several of his relatives reside.]
