MILITARY TOURNAMENT.
SUCCESS OF THE GATHERING AT PALMERSTON NORTH.
[Pun Press Association.! PALMERSTON N., Nov. 8. Tlie attendance at the miltary tournament was good and the weather fine. All the companies not having arrived, no results are yet available, but the programme of events was interesting anil got off briskly and up to time. Lord Plunket and party were present, Ilis Excellency being escorted by a squad or the Mauawatu Mounted Rifles. He was officially welcomed by LieutenantColonel Pringle. . At the evening display a senes or tableaux were given, which were made very effective by an electric light fitted up by No. 3 Company, Wellington Garrison Artillery. The tableaux included "Sleeping at His Post,” representing the famous picture of Napoleon discovering a sleeping sentry, “War Arms of the Empire,” and “Soldiers of the King.” The display, “Winning the Y.C.,” by the Mauawatu Mounted Rifles, was verv realistic, and the whole programme was quite unique. Fifty-five corps were represented by 850 men. The following are among the companies represented: Wellington Bearer Battalion Hifles and Guards, Post and Telegraph Rifles and Boys’ Institute. Rifles, Engineers, D Battery, Electric Lighting section of the Garrison Artillery, Highlanders, the • Christchurch Bearer Corps, the Auckland College Rifles and Engineers, Gordon Rifles, Feilcling Mounted Rifles, Heretaunga Mounted Rifles, Royal New Zealand Artillery, Zealandia Rifles, Wellington and Temulca Rifles, B Battery (Dunedin), Ashburton Guards, Napier City Cadets, Hamilton East and West School Cadets, Wanganui Guards, Petone Navals, Seddon Mounted limes, and- Wellington Navals.
