THE POLICE COMMISSION.
MR DINNIE’S REPLY PRESENTED
(Special to “Times.”) WELLINGTON, Nov. 9. Commissioner Dinnie’s reply to Mr. H. W. Bishop’s report on police matters has been received by the Government, and will probably be laid on the table of the House to-morrow. It sliou.d prove an interesting document, and will doubtless bring forth discussion. Some members hold that the inquiry having, been closed by the report of Mr Bishop, who -dealt with evidence taken on oath, and. Mr. Dinnie having been afforded every facility to defend himself before the inquiry closed, it is manifestly unfair to allow him now to traverse the whole position and endeavor to upset the finding of the Commission by a last word not vouched for on oath, and no chance of rebuttal, which may prejudice members in their discussion or the report and affect the final decision of Parliament.
