THE KING’S BIRTHDAY.
A GENERAL HOLIDAY
The weather for the holiday yesterday was .beautifully line and warm. All the offices and places of business in town were closed, and the streets wore a deserted appearance all day. _ There were a great number of picnics into the country, and those, with the o.d settlers’ picnic at Patutahi, and. the military sports at the Park racecourse, attracted a great many people to enjoy tiie holiday in the country. The sporting .section of trie community was well catered for by cricket at Taruheru and the Victoria "Domain, and by bowling at the greens of both clubs. The warrnncss of the weather attracted a number of people to the beach, where bathing was indulged in. In the evening, the town was again exceedingly quiet, a great many people attending the performance of the Pathe pictures in the theatre.
CELEBRATIONS IN CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 9. Fine weather was experienced for the holiday. The principal attraction was the Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington, which was very largely atttended. Many business places observed the holiday on. Monday, and were open to-day.
