CYCLING.
TE KARAKA ROAD RACE. A road race from Gisborne to Te ICaraka and back, finishing at Air. H. Anderson’s bicycle shop, took place yesterday, and resulted as follows: — A Sutton, 16min 40see 1 S. Whitehead, scr t F. Mawhinney. 30sec t Pah Edwards, 2min 4 t Dead heat. Edwards also secured fastest unplaced time. The actual ridng times of the foregoing were: —A. Sutton- (16min 40sec), 2hr 14min 50sec; S." AA 7 hitehead (scr), 2hr 4rnin 40sec; F. Alawhinnev (30sec), 2hr smin lOsec; Pah Edwards (2miti), 2hr 15inin 40sec. AA r hitehead made the actual fastest time. There were a number of tacks on the road, as was shown by the fact that Edwards finished with two tacks in his. front tyre. Messrs A. and G. Anderson went to Te Karaka in their car, acted as turning point stewards, and also fetched home three of the riders, as well as their bicycles, which, owing to the prevalence of tacks, were rendered useless. Air. H. Anderson, started the race, and Air. Howard was judge. The time was rather slow, owing to the head wind and the riders not being in good condition. ' The first prize was a handsome Centaur bicycle, presented by H. Anderson 'and Son, valued at £ls 15s. The second prize was a set of Alacintosh tyres, valued at £3 3s, presented by Air. J. B. Clarkson. The third prize was a gold medal, presented by H. Anderson and Son. The prize for the fastest time was a gold medal, also presented by 11. Anderson and Son.
