THE SUFFRAGISTS.
OUTRAGE AT LORD MAYOR’S
FUNCTION
United Press Association —Copyright LONDON, Nov. 10.
Whilst Sir John Knill, Lord Mayor, at the Guildhall was proposing the King’s health a crash was heard and a portion of a stained glass window, almost facing Mr Asquith, fell among the guests. A large piece of glass struck Mr Henniker Heaton, M.P., on the head, and a thin piping voice was heard crying, “Votes for Women.” The police ascended the staircase leading to the window and arrested two elderly women. It is conjectured that they entered as charwomen in the morning and secreted themselves. THE PERPETRATORS FINED. (Received November 11, 10.35 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 11. Amelia Brown, of no occupation, and Alice Paul, student, were fined £5 and costs, or a month’s imprisonment, for breaking a window at the Guildhall. They obtained admission as charwomen, and" participated in preparing the room for the banquet, and concealed themselves. They were found in possession of a bottle of milk and a stomach pump, which they intended to present to Mr. Asquith as an illustration of forcible feeding methods. The Aldeiman severely commented on their hysterical tactics, and their inexcusably damaging a historic building. _ .
