ADVANCES TO SETTLERS’ DEPARTMENT.
(Special to “Times;”) WELLINGTON, Nov. 11. A return showing the net profits made by the Advances to Settlers Department shows a steady increase from £l2 321 in 1899 to £63,835 in 1909. A total of £354,181 profits have been disDo'sed of as follows: Loan flotation, charges written off £209,248, amount transferred to reserve fund or £oi,UUU; amount transferred to sinking fund, £44,189; . balance to profit and loss, £50,742. * THE TE AUTE BLOCK. A return, called for by Mr. Herries, shows tliat there were 455 applicants for 30 sections in the To Aute' block in October last. Of these tlie total number of applicants on the cash system was five, on occupation with right to purchase 404, on the renewable lease system 46. The total number of successful applicants on the cash, system was nil, on the occupation with right to purchase 28, and on renewable lease two.
