MOTU v. GISBORNE

The visiting team of Motu cricketers Allayed the second and concluding match at Taruhera yesterday. E. Derecourt von the toss from It. G. Hallamore, the Gisborne captain, and the country team batted. The wicket was in perfect order, but the exceptional heat that prevailed made bowling most strenuous work. Motu did not make a good start, but a promising stand by YV. Itoed and Derecourt for the fifth wicket improved matters. After scoring 32 in good style, Deed got l.b.w.j.tb H. Wack. H. E. Maude, the slow bowler, finished off the innings in summary fashion, securing the phenomenal bowling figures of: 2 overs, 2 maidens, and 3 wickets. Derecourt did some powerful driving in running up his score of 24. The innings, which at one time appeared likely to realise a good total, eventually closed for 101. The town team replied with 128, J. Lang, H. Wack, Hallamore, and Babbs being the chief run getters. W. lleed, W. MacDonald, L. Anderson, Derecourt, Monk, and J. Hansen were the bowlers for Motu, and each secured wickets. On going to the wickets a second time, Motu collapsed in a most unaccountable manner, and were all dismissed for 40 runs. Requiring 14 runs to win, Gisborne hit off the runs for the loss of a wicket, and thus won the match by nine wickets. - Lieut.-Colondl Winter and Messrs R. Thelwall, G. Coop, and Stitchbury officiated as umpires during the day. The following arc the scores: MOTU.—lst Innings. F. Hansen, lbw, bH. Wack ... 3 L. Anderson, c and b Farrell ... 1/ F-- Reed, b H.
