GISBORNE CLUB

Another game in- the first series of the Handicap Singles competition was held on the green of the Gisborne Bowling Club yesterday, afternoon between AVoot-ton and Seymour. The- green was in capital order, and the game proved a. very good one. AVootton conceded two points to Seymour, the handicap allowances being respectively 6 and 8. After a well-contested! game AYootton was victorious by half-a-dozen points, scoring 23 to his opponent’s 17. •

TURANGANUI CLUB

On the Turanganui Club’s green yesterday afternoon three games in the Bennett Cup competition were played, the results being as follows: M. G. Nasmith junr 25 beat AY. H. Douglas 14.—Up to the 10th head the game was a very even one, for on the sth head Douglas was 5 to 3, but on reaching the 10th head Nasnnth reversed the position with 10 to 8. Keeping the jack, Nasmith ran up to 21 against Douglas’ 11 on the 17th head, and won easily at the finish by 11 pointo. B. Hird 17 beat A. Sawyer 12.—Hird cot a- good lead of 8 to 1 on .the 6th head, but Sawyer, playing weU, was only two behind on the 15tli head 42 to iO. Good play was witnessed on the remaining heads, Hird, however, holding his own and winning by o pomts. W. Bruce 23 beat AY. H. Douglas 20. This game bristled with peculiarities. On the first two heads Bruce scored the possible, and for the.-first six heads never gave his opponent a chance, being 16 on the board to Dougias blank. On the 7tli head Douglas got the ehot, and immediately 'altered the length ot the jack. This put Bruce somewhat out of the running, and for seven heads he was unable to score, while D ° u S las pi t up 12, the 13th head showing Bruce lb Douglas 12. Then Bruce scored, and put up slioit lengths, and on the next four heads obtained 5 while Ins opponent was at a standstill. On the and 19th heads Douglas scored three s, and was 18 to 21 on the 19tl‘head. Don "las essayed a long jack on the 20th°head, but found the ditch. B!UCe then tried for a- short jack, but vas too short. Again Douglas tried a long ■jack, and was this time successful, but Bruce succeeded in obtaining two out ot H e head, and put the issue beyond doubt On the final head Douglas put up two, and thus suffered defeat by three points.
