LARGE TIMBER MILLS BURNED

B inns’ timber yards and mills mere completely demolished. Six duellinghouses and the premises of the Carrying Company were also destroyed.
DAMAGE SEVENTY THOUSAND
POUNDS
(Received November 21, 5.5 p.m ) SYDNEY, Nov* 21. Saxton and Bums’ yards covered an area of eight acres, and of this the fire swept four acres, destroying enormous stocks of timber, estimated at seven million feet, and a great quantity of valuable machinery. Mr. Saxton estimates the damage at £70,000 sterling, only £20,000 of which is covered by insurance. Between 400 and 500 employees have been rendered idle. A lighter belonging to the firm was also destroyed. Another, the property of Buckle and Company, caught tiro, and was scuttled and sunk. Six hundred feet of wharf were burned. Gray Bros., carriers, had 70 horses stabled near the outbreak. They were liberated safely after a scene of wild excitement. The carts and harness were destroyed.
GALLANT STRUGGLE BY THE FIREMEN.
The firemen made a good save. The lire was one of the fiercest and most rapid ever seen in Sydney. A hard tight by the whole force of the brigade prevented a much more serious disaster. The whole block at one time appeared doomed,
