At the Point Hansen started to draw ahead, and coming through the "bridge t was nearly iwo lengths to the good. _ Urged on by supporters on the bank Hamilton here quickened bis stroke, and opposite the Turanganui Hotel : caught and passed Hansen. The latter made strenuous, efforts, but could' not catch Hamilton, who was declared the- winner, having half a length clear water over his opponent., , ‘ . ■ The final for Mr. C. Mprse’s trophies was also got off. The rain had ceased, hut a stiff breeze made the water very heavy. The crews were Cowan (str), Everiss, Hudson,- and Wright, and Coleman (str), McConville, Eraser, and Dawson. At the bend Coleman had a lead of nearly a length, but, owing to the other boat crowding, .they got nearly on, the mud, and in getting out'the oars fouled a number of times, thereby causing Coleman to lose way. At the bridge both crews were together, but the water/ ' getting rougher, enabled Cowan’s heavier crow to get a lead of about a length and' a half. At the Courthouse, Coleman quickened and reduced .the lend rapidly. From a. hard fought finish Cowan managed to get home first, with a load of a little over a foot.
