Outstanding: Wharfages, current £25 16s 6d, rent contractors’ deposit account £99 I/s bd. , REPORTS. HARBOItMASTER’S REPORT. ,Tlk; harbormaster (Capt. Cumniing) reported that the Tualime hglit was now working well, and the telephon communication was proving a great benefit, fully justifying the Board s action. The channel was keeping good. Shipping: steamer arrivals 37, cle.partures 36; sailing vessels, arrivals J departures 7 ; moorages, extra lay days 17s 7d, lighter dues £o 12si- 6d. Jhe river soundings gave a depth ot .lirt at the end of breakwater, which is still actually 4ft less than the depth obtaining in August last, prior to the heavy flood. At the third bollard the depth was 7ft 6in, and had improved a toot during the month. The Snark s landing 6ft 6i», also showed a slight improvement. The channel opposite the mouth of the Waflcanae lias remained at its normal depth of 7fk for v the past two months. Soundings along the new wharf have improved and range from 6ft to 7ft, the half way along the town wharf being the same. The' water along the upper end of the wharf remains at from 4ft to oft, and at the Kaiti wharf from 4ft to 7ft /The report was adopted. ‘ OVERSEER’S REPORT, 'Hie overseer (Mr. D. A. McLeod) reported that the John Townley had taken 56 loads of spoil to sea during the njontli, and the channel was now fairly good. Overtime work on the dredge had been discontinued except when necessitated by tidal conditions. The new grab Ipul been altered, and was working successfully in. deepening the Maui’s berth. The small dredge on the breakwater had ceased work onM7th, having exhausted all spoil within reach as a result of the spell of smooth sea. The grab was being overhauled. The suction dredge had continued steadily at work during the month. The fence authorised to bei erected on the Waikanae beach has been completed. The rock cutter was put into commission on the 12th. Stone and gravel removed from Kaiti Beach totalled 147 loads. The report was adopted, and it was decided that the overseer report to next meeting on the cost of decking the Kaiti Wharf close to the new coal bunkers, * DREDGEMASTER’S REPORT. The dredgemaster (Capt. Solvander) reported that the John Townley had removed 200yds of sand along the breakwater, 600yds clay from abreast of the coalSbunkers, and 4800yds from various places. The engineer submitted a satisfactory report on the state of the machinery. A number of accounts were passed for payment and the Board proceeded to a discussion on the question of the extension of the breakwater.
