SENIOR COMPETITION.

SATURDAY’S MATCHES

The championship games were resumed' on Saturday afternoon, in showery weather. United defeated Taruheru, at Taruheru, by an innings and 22 runs, and at the Domain, Wanderers secured a 2-point win over Y.M.C.A.

UNITED v. TARUHERU.

The above teams resumed their match on the Taruheru ground on Saturday afternoon. On the previous Saturday Taruheru scored 07 in their first innings, and at call of time United had seven wickets down for 127. On resnraing on Saturday the wicket and fe outfield were in very good order, considering the exceptionally heavy rain of the previous night. The not out batsmen. Farrell (13) and Hallamore (9) continued the innings against the bowling of Monk and Sharpies. With 5 runs added, Farrell was clean bowled by Sharpies. J. Lang joined Hallamore, and the pair carried the total to 159, the latter getting in some powerful off strokes. Davies was 'then brought on, and secured the two remaining wickets with liis slows lor no runs, off five balls. -Requiring 92 runs to avoid an innings defeat, Taruheru commenced their second innings, but could only total 70 against the bowling of Jeffreys, Farrell, and Grenfell. United thus won by an innings and 22 runs. Tho following are the scores:

UNITED v. WANDERERS

The above teams met at Victoria Domain on Saturday afternoon, and a low-scoring match ended in a win for Wanderers by eight wickets. United batted first,' but could only total 26, with two men absent, against the bowling of Smith (5 for 11) and Owen (3 for 6). Wanderers replied with 44, Burrows (23) and Hogg (13) showing good form with the bat. McLeod secured 7 wickets for 18 runs. In their second effort United scored 28. Smith secured tho remarkable bowling > average of 7 wickets for 11 runs. Requiring 11 runs to win, Wanderers secured the necessary runs to insure a 3-point win for the loss of two wickets, thus winning by eight wickets. Y.M.C.A. v. ALHAMBRA. In this game YMCA secured a win on the first innings by the narrow margin of three runs They batted-first, • and scored 36, the wickets being secured bv Sim Watson, and West. Alhambra 'in their first innings failed to reach the Y.M.C.A. total b v 3 runs, Edwards and Jones disposing of them .tor 63 runs. In their second venture Y-M-C.A. mad© 51, Brown (22)- and An Id i&k H2) being the principal scorers., bun, Watson and West again, divided the wickets. At the call of time Alhambra 85jj|c in their second innings had made lo for one wicket.
