GISBORNE CLUB

Bowling on Saturday afternoon was less enjoyable than it would have been had the weather bc-en fine, but it was sufficiently so to tempt a considerable number of members of the _ Gisboi no Club to indulge in the pastime, the concluding match in the second round of the Handicap Fours was got off, in the intervals between the showers. One game in the first round of the Handicap Singles was played, as well as a few ordTnary games. The following were the scores and players of the principal games: — - —Handicap Fours.— Brown, Redstone (sub.), R. G. Crawford, J. J- Martin (skip) (I.) IS beat Lucas (sub.), T. Adair, F. W. Pettio, Ambridge (dkip) (5) 14.—--The game was evenly contested. Martin got.the lead on the 15th bead by getting in three, making his score 13 to Ambridge’s 12. On the next bead he "nt a singlo, four of his boivls being cut out by a fine shot, by Ambridge, who sent up bis last, bowl when Martin was lying five. In the remaining heads Martin scored four m singles, and Ambridge two, the former thus winning by four points. . Tn the semi-final of this competition Martin’s rink meets Witty’s, whose handicap is 6 points, and Robertson (4) plays W. Pettie (4). a —Handicap Singles.— Maher (12) 30 beat Pavitt (6) 20. — The winner scored on tgn heads, getting in all four bowls on the third, and a couple of threes. Pavitt on three occasions got in three of liis boivls. The draw for the second round of this competition is to take place this Week. —Ordinary Match.— Maher, Wilson, Wootton, Mackintosh (skip) 19 beat Pavitt, Paltridge, Greig, Ponsford (skip) 14. TURANGANUI CLUB. The unfavorable aspect of the weather on Saturday militated against a good attendance of howlers on the Turanghnui Club’s green, and only two rinks were engaged. One match in. the Bennett Cup competition was played, the result of which was — W. H. Douglas 19 beat A. Sawyer 11. —Sawyer was 3 to 1 on the 4th head, and on the next five heads never scored, while bis opponent put up eleven, the 9th head showing, Douglas 11. Sawyer 3. On the next twelve heads Sawyer and Douglas both put up eight points, the latter thus winning by eight points. Neither player was at his best, Sawyer especially playing very poorly. In the challenge game for the Douglas Feathers, H. J. Finn and B. Hird (challengers) forfeited the game to the holders. W. Hay and M. G. Nasmith, junr., by default. The following is the position .of the various players in the Bennett Cup competition at the conclusion of the third week’s play:—B. Hird, 5 wins. 2 losses; M. G. Nasmith, senr., 3 wins. 0 losses; A. Sawyer. 3 wins, 3 losses: W. Ratcliffe.' M. A. Neill, and J.* J. Martin, 2 wins, 0 losses; M. G. Nasmith, junr., 2 wins, 4 losses; W. H. Douglas, 2 wins, 5 losses; W. Bruce, 1 win. 1 loss: J. P. Williams. P. E. Hallarn. and T. McConnell. 0 wins, 1 loss: R. 0. Skeet and C. F. Lewis. 0 wins, 2 losses. W. McPherson, C. J. Bennett, J. Colley and V. Hooper have not yet commenced their games:
