ALLEGED HORSE STEALING.
CASE WITHDRAWN
[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Dec. 3. A charge of stealing against two men named Smith and Cooper, ended rather 'unexpectedly at Ohakune S.M. Court yesterday. : The men were arrested in Wanganui, charged Avitli stealing seventeen horses, the property of one Muggeridge, a saAvmillor, of Ohakune, and they wer© remanded to Ohakune.. M.i. Patterson, solicitor, of Wanganui, applied leave to haA r e the case AVitlidraAvn. Mr. Mackay, who appeared for the accused, objected unless an order Avas made for costs. Sergeant Bettie said the horses Avere in the hands of tho police, and they had a bill of about £9 for their keep. After considerable argument, Mr. Kerr, S.M., consented to tlie Avithdrawal of the case conditionally on all costs and charges being paid by Muggerdige, the horses to be. returned to the accused.
