THE WOOL MARKET.

WELLINGTON WOOL SALES

TPer Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Dec. 3. The second of the 1909-10 series of Wellington avool sales, held to-day, Avas not only the most important December sales yet held, but A\ T as a very satisfactory clearance of the wools offered. Unlike the November sales, the American competition did not dominate the position, and for tho very good reason that there was not the same selection for the requirements of that trade. It Avas essentially a Bradford tops day for condition. Prices AA'ere equal to those ruling at Napier. As Ai r as anticipated, there Avas keen competition for the loAver grade avools, and taking the condition into account these Avere dearer than at the November auctions. The best price of the sale was 133 d for light conditioned half-bred, while a very light conditioned Romney line Avent up to 133 d, an advance of 3d on the best price of tbe November sale. In one or catalogues a good percentage of the lines Avere passed in owing to growers’ ideas of value being above tbe true market basis. Farmers had not only made tho common mistake of supposing that because a certain crossbred topped a previous market theirs should about do the same, but had overlooked the fact that with the warmer weather the; wool was much heavier in condition than in November. Generally tho prices realised were most satisfactory. The folloAving are the prices ruling last December, November of this year, and December: Best half-bred, 9£d to 12d, 12d to 13|d ! ; ; medium half-bred 7.3 d to. 83d, 12d to 18R lid to 12d; super, crossbred, 8R to. lQld, to 123 d, 12d .to 13d; medium crossbred, 7d to 83d, 8R to lOJ'd, 9id to 103 d: coarse crossbred, 6jd to 7Jd:.- 7,d: to 9£d, Bd\ to lOd; inferior crossbred, s ld to 63d, 63d to Bd, 7d to B£d; bellies, pieces, 3d to 7d; 4d t0.73d, fiid to B*d. ■ The actual prices realised cannot be .accurately .compared;• Avitli those- ruling at this time' last year, without allowance being made for the remarkably light condition of this season‘s clip.
