ALLEGED VAGRANCY

Charles Armstrong, who had been remanded from Monday on a charge of vagrancy, was again brought - forward. He stated that he had walked down from the coast and en route had a few Sergeant Hutton said that- accused had had a, couple of drinks at Pakarae, on the way down,, and had left there in the middle of the night, scantily clad where he had been found drenched to the skin, and was taken charge of. Accused seemed to be a hard worker, but a couple of drinks appeared to' affect his mind. 'He did not wish to press the charge against accused who had stated that he owned a -horse’ and was expecting some money. Accused was discharged upon a friend volunteering to liel]> him. to get back to Tokomaru. His Worship eulogised the action of tbe police m taking care of the unfortunate man, who otherwise might have been much worse off.

A MAINTENANCE 'MATTER. In the case of Mary Godfrey (Mr. Blair) v. John Godfrey, a claim tor arrears of maintenance, there was n<> appearance of defendant, "W hen his name was called. His Worship consented to adjourn the case until Monday,, commenting upon defendant’s disobedience ,and intimating his intention of issuing a wairant for defendant’s apprehension should he fail to appear on Monday.
