MEETING OF COMMITTEES
Three meetings of committees of the Borough Council were held yesterday afternoon, when matters referred to them from the last meeting of the Council were considered. The Finance Committee went intothe claim for £175 compensation, received from Messrs - Rees Bros, and Bright, solicitors'on behalf of Mr F. A, Martin, Whataupoko. The claim was in respect of a strip-of land along Richardson’s Avenue, and of which the Council had refused to accept the aedication as a public road. A decision was arrived at by the committee, and instructions in the matter, are to be given to tlie Council s solicitors. .. . The Abattoirs Committee discussed the question of the disposel of casings, and also the letter received from the secretary of the Slaughtermen’s Union regarding Sunday work at the abattoirs. In each case recommendations will be made to next meeting of the The "Works Committee decided that, as soon as possible, the Straker waggon commence' the haulage of metal from the Patutalii quarry. It was also decided to present a recommendation tp the Council that the Council s steam roller, be converted into a traction en.crino at an estimated cost of about £l3O. It' was stated that the engine would be capable of drawing the three trailers, fully loaded, from the qnariy to town. The committee, in company with Mr. Geo. Grant, C.E., then went on a visit of inspection to Temple Street, the levelling and laying out of which was the subject of discussion at the Council meeting last week.
