(Received December 6, 9.45 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 6.
The report of the Law Guarantee Trust and Accident Society showed sensational losses in breweries and hotels, particularly in connection with an unsound system of guaranteeing mortgages and debentures. Mr. Harris, the chairman, estimates that properties originally set down at £4,912,516 are now worth £1,705,173. The accounts show that the whole, i (vpital has been lost, and that there is a rurther deficiency of £200,000. Some shareholders are paying 40s P er share in order to escape the unpaid liability. The majority of the shareholders are barristers or solicitors and their clerks. An influential committee proposed voluntary liquidation.
