ABOLITION HOUSE OF LORDS #| . ukged. - UNITED PIIESS AsSOCIATION—CoPYUiaUT LONDON, Dec. 7. ' The Free Church Council is' I 'urging .that a thousand local councils in England and Wales take strong local action in favor of the abolition, of the .power of veto by the .House of Lords. Mr Walter Long (one of the leaders •of the Opposition) and other politicians •emphasise the absence of any indication as to- how the Liberals propose to abolish the Lords 5 veto. The Parliamentary Committee of the Trades Union Cohgress manifesto deflates that the Lords-had never voluntarily done anything to promote the inteiests of the masses. On the contrary, they protected every abuse: and supported every privilege! They •' persistently and consistently delayed re.forms, and are a menace to political freedom. The rejection of the Budget was a deliberate insult. The manifesto urges the abolition of the House of Lords. •/ • The “Daily Mail 55 says that a general basis of action between the'Government and Socialists is now clear. Where a laborer is in possession lie will not be opposed. Where a Liberal is in possession tile Labor leaders will refuse funds to enable a local nominee to fight. The Mail adds: The Labor candidates have withdrawn from Mid-Glan-morganshire, Stalybridge, Midlothian, Carkstonash, Crewe, East Caermartlien, Coventry, Plymouth, and East Nortliants. ■ ■. * r
