SYDNEY, Dec. 8

Dr. Foote, 1 a New Zealander, a passenger by the Nairnshire, successfully performed a difficult operation during the voyage. One of the stokers was .stricken with appendicitis. He was in a critical condition, and Dr. Foote decided that an operation was necessary to save his life. Without any expert assistance, and during a heavy gale, he carried the operation through successfully. The man is progressing satisfactorily.
