POLITICAL NOTES.
SLOW PROGRESS
(Special to “Times.”) WELLINGTON, Dec 9. The third reading of the Dreadnought Bill occupied the House all tins afternoon and up to the supper adjournment At the rate progress the fixed closing day will he upon ns without much 'being done, m the way of legislation, as the Estimates, tne Public Works Statement, and the reports of the Royal Commission hare yet to bo dealt with as well as the Taxation Bills. THE GOVERNMENT PARTY—NOT A HAPPY FAMILY. There is considerable gossip in the lobbies as to what took place at the* Government caucus on Tuesday. A prominent member of the Government par tv declared that it was evident that a recasting of the Ministry was within measurable distance. It was perfectly well-known, be said, that tlia aioy lacked the esprit do corps which should obtain. From what occurred at the caucus, however, it was clear that the position had lately grown very much worse. “Why,” he continued, “Members actually complained of want of cordiality and aloofness on the part of Ministers towards Members.” There is a feeling in well informed quarters that the healing of the breach among Government members is only of a temporary character.
