The House of Lords has decided that estate duty must be paid on a million and a half foreign bearer bonds deposited in London by W. Winans, a millionaire who was domiciled in America but died in London. The executors claimed a refund of £130,000 duty which had been paid an order to obtain probate. A VICTIM OF CIRCUMSTANCES. Obituary: Adolf Beck, the’ famous . victim of mistaken identity, who, in . 1904, was given £2OOO by the Government as compensation for wrongful arrest and imprisonment. British gunboats on the Persian Gulf captured three dhows engaged in gunrunning. Two thousand eight hundred rifles and 460,000 cartridges were seized. FINANCING PERSIA. ■ The Persian Parliament has approved of the Government borrowing half a million sterling, also for the employment of Europeans to organise finance.
