ART CURIO AND INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION,

A RECORD ATTENDANCE. A laughing, happy, struggling crowd of men, women and children tilled almost every inch.of the ■available public* space at the Garrison Hall last evening, when the Art, Curio and Industrial Exhibition was -continued. The attendance was a record, and everyone present left with their high expectations fully realised. After last night’s patronage the success of the undertaking is assured. The curios and exhibits ' aroused great interest last night, and two or three hours were very profitably employed iu going-over the .stands. As usual the greatest interest centred round the side-shows, and big business was done.

The canvassers for the grand art union ' were kept busy, and the high numbers on the tickets gave an indication that they had been selling like hot cakes. The .warm evening was conducive to good business at the refreshment and cool drinks stalls, and the attendants had an extremely busy time. The refreshment stall was in charge of Mrs. F. Wilkinson, and she .was ably assisted by the following ladies : Mesdames Crawford, Chrisp, Kirk, Church, Catton, M. L. Foster ? Spurdle, Johnson, and Miller, and Misses Saddler, McConnell, and Dawson. The judges’ awards in the musical competitions were announced last evening before the clioir competition. The results were:

Brass Instrument Solo, “Lost Chord” (Sullivan).—Mr. F. C. Wilkinson 8S 3.-3 points, 1; Messrs C. Clayton and H. Torrens, 86 1-3 points (equal), 2; Mr. T. Williams 85 2-3 ipoiiits. Male Quartette, “In Absence” .(Dudley Buck). —Messrs McClymont, Young, Grieve, and Alexander, 84 1-3 points, IMessrs Brownlee, Heathcote, Glanvillc and Hollands, ,and Messrs Kissling,” Ruby, Hookey, and Brown, 76 2-3 points (equal); Messrs Paora, Ellison, Clark, and Rov. F. W. Chatterton, 66 1-3 points; Messrs Cotton, Pine, K. Clark, and Makaore, 65 points. Piano (juniors, under 14). —Miss Ivy Robertson, S 6 2-3 points, 1; Miss Gladys Hoare, SI 1-3 points, 2; Miss Cassie Oatridge, 78 2-3 points, 3. Last evening the grand choir competition took place, the piece selected being “The Radiant Morn” (Woodward). _ , . The choirs competing were: Metholist Choir (Mr. A. E. Lawrence conductor. Mrs. Schwnbe acompamst); Presbyterian Choir (Mr. A. T. Hookey conductor, Mr. C. East accompanist); Baptist Choir (Mr H. J- Brownlee conductor. Mrs. Brownlee accompanist). The judges were Messrs L. Brown, M L. Foster, and Rev. F. W. Chatterton. The result will be announced this evening. ' This afternoon the exhibition will be opened at 1 p.m., so as to enable country visitors wlio are not able to stay for tlie late train to catch the afternoon train, and also this evening at 7 p.in., when another large attendance is expected, particularly from the country, as a. special late train has been arranged for. leaving Gisborne at 10.30 p.m. for Waikohu, and stopping at all stations on mote. At 8 o’clock this evening an exhibition of shirt-ironing by gas irons will he given at the Gisborne Gas Coinpany’s stall, and another attraction will he the drawing of the art union at 9 p.m. REMOVAL OF EXHIBITS FROM HALL. A soecial advertisement appears in this issue with regard to the removal of exhibits from the hall. ..Any who desire may have their exhibits after 10 p m. to-night, and a special committee wili be at the hall from 8 a.m. on Monday to deliver exhibits to owners of same. The promoters of the exhibition are sincerely thankful to those who have lent curios, etc., for display, and they are very anxious that these should be returned in .good order and condition. Every -care has been and will be taken in handling, and the assistance of owners is asked virth recard to this matter. Owners of exhibits are earnestly asked to assist with regard to the removal as the task is of considerable magnitude. ART UNION DRAWING. The art union is to be drawn at 9 p.m. to-night, and all butts of books and monies must be paid to Mr Cowell at the Exhibition Committee room not later than 8.30 p.m. Ims is absolutely necessary m order that a fair and complete drawing may result, and the attention of those concerned is directed- to the importance of this notice.
