ROWING.
GISBORNE CLUB
The weekly committee meeting of the Gishorne Rowing Club was held last night, Mr. C. J. Hamilton in the chair. In response to an invitation from the Wairoa Rowing Club, it was decided to try and send two crews to take part in the regatta to be held there towards the end of January. It was decided to strictly enforce the rule regarding coxswains romoving their boots before entering the* boats, as already one of the new boats has been damaged in this way. . Messrs P. Hamilton and C. Muir were appointed liandicappers for the single sculling events, to take place in January, entries for which close on 20 tli inst.
The following was the result of the draw for the races for the Buscke .medals, to commence on Thursday evening : Hansen v: H. M. Puflett, Bayly v. Traill, Williams v. Gully. G. Puflett v. P. Hamilton. The semi-finals will he rowed on Friday, and the. final on Saturday. " **" - The races for the Chilton medals common}::© to-morrow evening, when Dalgety’s crew meets Gatland’s. The races will be continued on Thursday, the following being the draw: (1) Everiss v. Busby; (2) McConville v. Hudson ; (3) Tocker v. Wheeler; (4) Payne • v. winner of the Dalgety-Gatland race. On Friday evening the winner of No. 1 race rows the winner of No. 4. and the winner of No. 2 rows the winner of No. 3. The final will be rowed on Saturday evening. It was decided that the brothers H. and J. Chrisp, and M. Fry. if needed, be confined to the A grade race. Mr. W. Hackett was appointed starter and . Mr.. E.. Swinnerton judge. The committee completed the revision of the club’s new by-laws, and it was decided to. obtain quotations for printing, them. ... Messrs G. Puflett and J. M. Curtis were 'appointed the visiting -committee Tor this week. .
POVERTY BAY CLUB. The usual 1 weekly committee meeting- oU the Poverty Bay Rowing Club was held in the Cosmopolitan Club last evening, Mr. J. Webb -presiding. • A i_ letter was read from the secretary of. the Wairoa Rowing Club asking if jiossible that crews be sent to attend their regatta at the end of January.— It' was' decided to endeavor to " send two - , crews. ; ; 1 ■ '' . The Visiting ' Committee reported that everything in connection with the club-hous6 and" plant was in a satisfactory condition, and Messrs J. Webb and W. Hall were appointed the visiting committee for the ensuing week. It was decided to take entries for double sculling races for medals -presented by Mr. H. J. Grieve,' the entrance fee to be 2s. He proposes taking Jack Arnst and Fogwell as trainers.
