Tlie races in connection with the Chilton medals Commenced last evening. 'when Gatland, Hampton, Muir, and deLautour defeated Dalgety,Clarkson, Flynn, and O’Meara, by nearly five lengths. This evening Everiss meets Busby, McConville rows Hudson, Tocker meets Wheeler, and Payne rows Gatland in connection' with the Chilton medals, and for the Buscke medals Hansen meets H. M. Puflett, Bayly meets Traill, Williams meets Gully, and G. Puflett meets P. Hamilton. ARNST V. BARRY. United Press Association—CToptrioiit LONDON, Dec.' 14. Arnst asks £250 expenses and a side wager of £SOO, besides a £IOOO prize. Nickalls, Sullivan, and Blackstaffe have" decided that the side wager is unreasonable, but offer £3OO expenses. Arnst, seen by a ‘‘"Mail” reporter, said he was somewhat disappointed at Barry not being prepared to set up on the side wager, but' was more than satisfied with the £3OO expenses offered. He is considering his reply, but is unable to decide definitely for some days. WAKAPUAKA, Dec. 15. Arnst visited -Cable Bay to-day. Speaking of the offer cabled this morning, he stated that he could not say whether he would accept until he had consulted his backers. Personally, he did not consider the inducement offered sufficient.
