BOWLING.
GISBORNE CLUB.
This afternoon the members of the Gisborne Bowling Club vdll formally open their new pavilion, which is now completed. The principal feature oi the gathering will be a three-rink match with the Turanganui Club, the members of which have been invited to attend the function. In addition, any bowlers who may be wishful of being present will be welcomed, and every effort will be made to give tlimi a game. Play is to begin at 2 p in., and , at 3 p.m. there will be an interval for the formal opening ceremony. His Worship the Mayor, Mr. W. D. Lysnar, has accepted an invitation to be present. The lady friends of members have been invited, andi a large number of them are expected to attend the gathering. The 'ladies and other visitors are to be entertained at afternoon tea by the President of the Club, Mr. W. Pettie. Messrs Vita Bros.' orchestra is to play selections during the afternoon. The following rink has been selected to represent the Club at the Northern Bowling Association’s tournament at Wellington: Robertson, Craig, Euro, Ponsford (skip). TURANGANUI CLUB. Yesterdi\v afternoon saw throe games played on the Turanganui Bowling Club’s green in the Bennett Cup competition, and a challenge game for the. Walking Stick. The results were: — —Bennett Cup.— W. Ratcliff© 19 beat M. G. Nasmith, senr., 12.—This pair put up a good game, for on the 7th head the players were 4 all. Then Ratcliff© got a move on, he being 11 to Nasmith’s 4 on the 10th head. The latter then scored well, and was but one down on the 17tli head, being 12 to Ratdiffe’s 13. From this point Nasmith failed to score, and Ratcliff© won by seven points. M. G. Nasmith, senr., 22 beat T. McConnell 20.—Nasmith ran away at the start, being 10 to 3 on the 4th head and 13 to 7 on the 9tli head. Then McConnell pulled up leeway, and evened up matters op the 12th head, 13 all. Again on the 14th. head they were leveT—l4 all, and the 16th head saw themjstill even —17 all. Then Nasmith scored a three and a couple of singles. McConnell replied in good form, and on the last head required three to tie. He lay the necessary three shots, but Nasmith drew the second shot with his last bowl, and thus won by two points. W. McPherson 23 beat B. Hird 13. On the 7th head, McPherson was 6 to 5, but on the 9tli head Hird evened up matters with 7 all. Then McPherson got in his four bowls on two consecutive heads, which gave him a substantial lead, he being 17 to 9 on the 15th head. Thereafter he kept well in front, being 20 to 12 on the 17tli head, and winning eventually by ten points. —Challenge Walking Stick. —
R. Thelwall (challenger) 8 beat T. McConnell (holder) 1. —McConnell scored a single on the first head, and thereafter failed to score, Thelwall putting up a three, two singles, a two, and a single on consecutive heads, and! thus won -by seven points.
This afternoon the green of the Turanganui Club will be open for play, when those players who do not intend visiting the Gisborne green will be able to have a game.
