PROPOSED : AUSTRALASIAN RUGBY CONFERENCE.
[Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 18. Mr Geo. H. Mason, President of the Canterbury Rugby Football Union, has received a letter from Mr J. D. Avery, Secretary of tlie New Zealand Rugby Union, informing him that it is proposed to hold a conference between the New South Wales, Queensland and New Zealand unions at Sydney on the 28th inst. The letter adds that, at a special meeting of New Zealand delegates last year it was decided that, when such conference took place the Union should be represented by three delegats, one from each Island and one from the Management Committee. It was the desire of the Committee that Mr Mason should go as one of the representatives. The Council of Delegates of the New Zealand Union at a meeting held in March last, adopted some suggestions for the amendment of the laws of the game, and these Aveie forwarded to the English union. That bod- subsequently referred the amendments to the International Board, but nothing further has so far been heard from the English authorities. It is very probable that the conference will be an extremely important one and it may lead to the formation of an Australasian Union. It certainly should bring about a good deal mrro reciprocity in football matters than at present exists. Mr Mason has not yet decided whether fie can accept the invitation to act as the South Island delegate.
