RAKAUROA.

A QUOIT TOURNAMENT

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

In the quoit tournament held by the Rakauroa Club some interesting games were witnessed. When the names came out of the hat it was generally expected that Messrs Greig and McDonald would “wipe the floor” with the opposition, but to the surprise of all concerned, Messrs Hamilton and Harkness won the competition. The following are the results: —-Round 1: Neal and Kemble beat Jones and Burke, Greig aiid McDonald beat Lynch and Duffy, R. Halket and J. Devery beat Faulkner and Drummond, Hamilton and Harkness beat Garside and Espie., Round 2: Neal and Kem■!e beat Greig and MoDonald, Hamilton and Harkness beat R. Halket and J. Devery. Final: Hamilton and Harkness 21 beat Neal and ■ Kemble 13. A SUCCESSFUL DANCE.

The dance under the management of the (management of the Rakauroa Dance Committee, which was to be held on the lOfch inst.. was postponed 1 until Tuesdav night, 14th inst., on account of the rough weather, and turned out to be a very successful function. The weather was all that could liave\been desired, and the roads, although rough, ■were otherwise in good order. Several of the ladies came as far as ten miles to the gathering. The floor was in splendid order, and great credit is due to the committee, who worked very hard to make the ball a success. Among the ladies present were Mesdames Buscke, A. Smith, Cunningham, C. Smith, W. R. Clark, Misses Smith, N. McPhee, Neal, and Thelwall. The music was supplied by Messrs S. V. Beaufoy (piano), P. Smith, W. Clark, P. Clark, land F. Smith (accordeon). Dancing was briskly kept up until 2.30 in the morning. An excellent supper was supplied by the ladies of the district.
