An analysis of the balance-sheets of one hundred typical Lancashire mills’ containing eight, i million spindles,, shows a loss of £270,072 sterling, or' 8 per cent, for the year. 'Nevertheless, the- dividends average 7J per cent. This was possible because the companies wr.ote their stocks dow 4 n "to nominal figures during boom years.
