PORT DARWIN, Dec. 23
'Lord Kitchener has arrived in the Dutch steamer from the Netherlands East Indies. He was welcomed by Major-General Hood. He boarded the cruiser Encounter, which fired a salute of nineteen guns. He landed, and was officially welcomed at the Town Hall. The Encounter sails for Thursday Island to-day. Lord Kitchener is in excellent health. He is described as a blue-eyed, somewhat slight, mild-look-ing gentleman, instead of the swarthy, fierce-eyed man of gigantic mould of popular impression.
