LONDON WOOL SALES.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., were yesterday in receipt of the following cablegram from their London office re wool: “As compared with last sales closing rates, prices are higher about 5 per cent to 7\ per cent for medium greasy crossbred and coarse greasy crossbred.”
FROZEN MEAT TRADE
[Pick Purrs Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 23
The fifth, annual report of the Brit-ish-New Zealand Meat and Produce Company, to be presented at the annual meeting on January sth, states that, in submitting the annual report and balance-sheet, for the ten months ended October 30, 1909, the directors have pleasure in reporting that the balance at the credit of iprofit and loss account amounts to £3520 17s lOd, which they consider very satisfactory. They recommend that it be dealt with a s follows: In payment of a dividend at the rate of 8 per cent, per annum, £1230 12s sd; in payment of the balance of . preliminary expenses, £1000; in reduction of the patent rights of the defroster, £6BO 0s sd; and to carry forward the balance, £6OB ss. The steady and substantial growth of th« company’s business, which has increased during the year under review more than 100 per cent., is a matter for congratulation. « NAPIER, Dec. 23. The Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company, Ltd.. London, cable the following report of the frozen meat market: —“There is a slight improvement in the demand for lamb. Otherwise the market is unchanged. The prices .for mutton are : Canterbury 4d, Napier, Wellington, and North Island 3|d. Lamb, first quality 4d, second quality 3fd. Beef, hindquarters 3|d, forequarters 2?d.”
HOME MARKETS. UNITED PItKB 8 ASSOCIATION —COPVRTOHI LONDON, Dec. 22. The wheat market is quieter, and there is less demand for cargoes. Sales have been made of Australian new crop-by ’December-January steamers at 40s, and by sailers at 39s 6d. / At the tallow sales 672 casks were offered and 30S sold. Barley is at late rates. Shares are unchanged in price.

MELBOURNE, Dec. 23. Hides.—The simply is moderate. Medium weights are unsteady and others firm. There will be no sales next week.
