INTERNATIONAL TELEGRAPH CONFERENCE.
A PROPOSED MONUMENT.

The Swiss Federal Council has decided, in accordance with a resolution of the International Telegraph Conference, held at Lisbon last year, to open a competition for the erection, of a monument at Berne .in commemoration of the Telegraph Union. The competition is open to artists of all nationalities, and designs are required to reach Berne by August next. The maximum price of the monument is not to exceed 170,000 francs (£6800), and the execution of the monument will be entrusted to the successful artist; 200,00 francs (£8000) will be divided among other deserving competitors.
