WHATATUTU RACES.
Although bad weather had been exs perienced for some days, yesterday it \ cleared up beautifully, and the anyfe' nual race meeting at Whatatutu was fc held under pleasant conditions, although the going was a tnfie sett. ■ The racing was, on the whole, good, although strong exception was taken to the performance of the two horses which started in the first race. A meeting of the stewards was called, and thev signified their intention of keeping the sport clean by refusing to accept the proffered explanations, and declared no race, in addition to striking the event off the programme. There was a good attendance of spectators, and the ,arrangements weiecapably attended to by the secretary (Mr. R. A. Morphy). ■ . ■ , The following are the detailed results: — District Handicap. —Mura Am J, Cakewalk 2. Scratched: Togo and Tawhiti. An inquiry was held into the running of both horses, and the eventwas declared no race, and struck off 'the card. Mangatu Hurdle s Handicap.—HeyBby 1, Moonlight 2, Cingalee 3. Also started: Silence and Keeps. A good race resulted in Heyboy getting heme by a length, with a similar distance between the placed horses. Maiden Sciirry.—Detonator 1, Gold Queen 2, Wairere. Also started: Astor and Hinewa. Won by a length, after a good finish. Pony Handicap.—Edna 1, Catchem, 2. Ivaitoa- 3. Also ran: Rosina and The Scrubber. Edna won rather easily. Flying Handicap.—Heyboy 1, Kaikuri* 2, Togo 3. Also started : Mura Alii, Convoy, Silence, and Cingalee. This was an excellent race. Heyboy just winnning by half-a-length. Consolation Handicap.—Cakewalk 1,. Catchem 2, Keeps 3. These were the only starters, and a great race resulted between first and second horses. The Ngawari races, he held at Whatatutu to-day.
