PATHE PICTURES
That the Patlie Pictures are firmly established in Gisborne was well shown last evening, when a very good attendance rolled up to greet the return of the pictures after a three nights’ absence. The new programme is undoubtedly one of the best shown in Gisborne, every picture being of really good. One notable film is “CQD, Saved by Wireless.” The remarkable selfpossession and bravery of Jack Binns, the wireless operator on the s.s. Republic, is still fresh in the minds of the public, and from the first flicker this picture was viwed with interest. The two ill-fated ships, Florida and Republic, are shown at sea in a dense fog, and in a remarkable manner the collision is clearly depicted. In his dismantled cabin, the ship being all m darkness, Binns then sounds the CQD wireless signal of distress, and by this means; succour is sent to the doomed vessel.' The picture is a great dramatic success, and well worthy of being seen by all. A different class of picture was “The Punchestown Steeplechase,” but the best racing film ever shown in Gisborne. After the arrival of the Viceroy of Ireland and Lady Aberdeen on tho course, the great steeplechase event is shown, the whole race being clearly presented. “Living London was a good picture, clearly setting out the great size of the “capital of the world.” A beautifully-colored scenic film was entitled “Across the Island of Sunny Ceylon.” The view i s taken from the front of a railway engine, and tho scenery shown was magnificent. Industrial scenes are always full of interest, and the one presented last evening entitled “Cattle Ranching in British Columbia,” showing as it did scenes in the*wheat field, on the cattle ranch, and on the poultry farm, was very educative. Other good pictures were “The Land of the Midnight Sun, “The Adventures of a Drummer Boy, and “The Two Rivals,” whilo the comic element was well supplied in ‘‘A Persistent Follower,” ‘‘A Cold and its Consequences,” “Bobby the .Sportsman,” “Foolsliead, Sportsman for Love,” and “A Narrow Escape.” This programme will be shown again tonight and to-morrow night, special attractions being announced for New Year’s Night, s
